We follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework at both nurseries. This is the new regulatory framework for childcare providers, and goes all the way through until your child goes to school.

The purpose of the EYFS is to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn, develop, and meet their own specific needs. This is achieved by children initiating their own learning interests with the guidance of staff, which can then be extended to develop the child’s learning and understanding of the world. Learning happens when children build on knowledge and what they already know. If the provision is right, children can learn more by making choices, being independent and finding a voice.

Our main aim is to ensure that the children initiate their own activities, as they will learn more if they are interested in what they are doing. Staff then follow a strategy which we call 'Match Plus 1', where the adult matches what the child is doing, and then extends the activity to encourage independent thinking and physical development. In particular, we value physcial development, as children who are more physical tend to learn better.

All the rooms at both nurseries have adapted their space into different areas which cover the EYFS framework. Every child also has their own EYFS folder which will include all their short and long term observations, and all relevant photographs.

If you would like to discuss the principles of EYFS further, please feel free to ask questions at your show-around visit, or at any other stage of your child’s involvement at the nursery.
